URGENT CALL – ERANO is inviting community leaders, and those working with community groups, to a crucial round table discussion regarding community safety and inclusion in Omagh. In light of the raising hate crime events it is clear we must act decisively and collectively to combat those threatening to cause racial tensions within our community. Your engagement as leaders is crucial to ensure we do not allow this behaviour to continue and we tackle this before racial tensions take root and fester in Omagh.
As a district we have welcomed refugees and new communities into our towns and villages making for a more diverse and multicultural community. The new communities have worked hard to integrate and contribute to our area, in many cases bringing new business and expertise with them.
To witness the racist incidents and negative rhetortic over the last few weeks and the impact of this on innocent people is horrifying and needs to be urgently addressed.
Omagh must remain a place where diversity is celebrated and where all residents can live in peace and without fear. Therefore, we urge you to attend this round table and contribute with your thoughts and expertise so we can develop proactive strategies to promote inclusion, foster understanding, and stamp our future racist incidents.
